Face Off: What to Expect When Having Peels & Facials

Since you are a Skinlover, you know that skin troubles like acne, scars, discolouration, and frown lines can make us appear older and grumpy – and are never welcome on our faces!

We should start fresh this year, and this means doing away with anything bad, such as skin ailments! One way to show off the fresh new you is to indulge yourself in skin facials and peels which can dramatically improve your skin. Before you rush to your nearest skin therapist, though, find out the best type of treatment for you:

Type of treatment according to skin issues:

Facials

Acne, blackheads, whiteheads, rosacea (redness) and zits: simple skin troubles but annoying when they become far too many! For these, facials are the best treatment, as these skin problems are on the surface level only and may not need deeper treatment. The best daily protection from these troublemakers? Make a cleansing ritual that involves removing all traces of makeup and washing your face gently but thoroughly.

Anti-ageing peels

Some may remember the shock of looking at the first appearance of fine lines on their face. While we can’t completely stop these from showing, we can always slow them down – go for anti-ageing peels that promote hydration and increase cellular turnover to have a smoother, firmer skin. Post-treatment, keep yourself always protected from the sun’s harmful rays and free radicals. twitter-icon

Pigmentation peels

Too many spots on your face and neck? This is a case of hyperpigmentation, which can be quite of a nuisance in the form of freckles, sun spots, age spots, and melisma (pregnancy spots). To prevent overproduction of melanin that causes these, opt to have peels that contain Vitamin C, which is anti-inflammatory, clears pigmentation and rejuvenates the skin.

Types of peels according to skin layer

Skin peels may also be in the form of light, medium, or deep peels depending on the type and depth of your skin trouble. Light peels only affect the topmost layer of the skin, and are effective in addressing age spots, fine lines, discolouration and dryness. Medium peels target the middle layer between the epidermis and upper layer of dermis – and treat acne, acne scars, wrinkles and pigmentation. Deep peels penetrate the lower layer of the dermis and address wrinkles, deep scars and hyperpigmentation – and they involve longer procedures and recovery time.

Before you start again or have another facial/peeling session, it is recommended that you consult with a skin expert to identify the type of facial and peeling you need based on your skin type and skin troubles. Bear in mind that skincare is most essential, as your skin will be very sensitive post-treatment. Since it is still summer, cover your face with fab sunglasses and hats and be on your way to looking lovelier and fresher all year round.
